New University Librarian Appointed

ianmcbainIan McBain has been appointed to the position of University Librarian at Flinders University, a position that has had only two previous occupants in the University’s 44-year history.  Ian has been the acting University Librarian since the retirement of Bill Cations in September 2008.

Ian has a long association with the university, firstly as a Flinders graduate.  He joined Flinders staff in 1982, and has held posts in every part of the library, including Executive Assistant to Noel Stockdale the foundation University Librarian (1985-1986), Head of Cataloguing (1989-1991) and was Sturt Librarian (1992-1995).  Since 1996 he has held the role of Associate Librarian (Learning and Research Services) where he has been responsible for all ‘front of house’ library services and initiatives.

It is an exciting time for the library, with a significant redevelopment  of the entry level of the Central Library scheduled for the summer and new service partnerships under development.  Ian looks forward to working to ensure that the library undertakes these and other developments in support of its mission to develop collections and provide quality services and facilities that meet the needs of students and staff in their roles of learners, teachers and researchers.
