In first semester 2020, the Library will pilot 24/7 opening of the Central branch to most print collections and study spaces on all floors. (According to the 2019 Library Satisfaction Survey, Flinders University students want extended access to library study areas – individual, group and silent study spaces.)
As part of our commitment to extend access, the Library has gained funding to make building modifications to open the Sturt branch 24/7 later in the year. The Library will also initiate negotiations with Flinders Medical Centre to extend access at the Medical branch. Library staff will be available during staffed hours, i.e. the periods of highest student demand and where there are not yet 24/7 spaces.
GETTING ACCESS
Send a picture of your valid student ID to security@flinders.edu.au requesting 24/7 access to the Hub and Library. This is to ensure that you can enter outside of business hours (before 9am and after 5pm.)
Collect 2hr Readings from the Information Desk during staffed hours. Any items borrowed within 2 hours of the Info Desk closing time (i.e. 3pm at Central; 6pm at Medical, Sturt on weekdays) may be kept overnight and returned before opening time (usually 9am) the following day. Items borrowed from the 2 hr collection on late Friday, Saturday or on a Sunday before a public holiday Monday, should be returned by 12 noon the next day. Note: The Library has placed more titles on the open shelves and has purchased additional online titles.
Collect any holds or document delivery titles from the Information Desks during staffed hours. If you can only pick up a book after 5pm on weekdays, select Medical or Sturt branch as the pickup location. (If a Flinders Uni title is available, it may be quicker for you to go straight to the shelves rather than to request it and have staff hold it for you.)
You can choose where and when to study in Central. The Library has upgraded task chairs and have created some funky new learning spaces on levels 1 and 2. We have added six rooms to the students’ bookable spaces. That makes a total of 13 bookable 24/7 spaces in Central!
