Get to Know your College: Rupali Saikia, Project Manager, Health Data and Clinical Trial

What is your role and what does your work focus on?

My role is Project Manager at Health data and clinical trial (HDCT). Health Data and Clinical Trials (HDCT) provides professional, specialised and patient-centred clinical research support. My work focus on providing guidance and support to a range of internal and external stakeholders in both academic and pharmaceutical spheres, with particular focus on contractual agreements and the clinical trial start-up process.

Where did you work before joining CMPH?

Prior to joining CMPH, I have had a few roles across the University starting my career at the Flinders Human Behaviour and Health Research Unit; National Institute of Labour Studies (NILS); and Research Development and Support within the DVCR Research portfolio.

What journey brought you to this point in your career?

I migrated to this country over 20 years ago and soon after arriving in this country I volunteered at Oxfam Trading in their Port Adelaide office. My role was to assist the then project development manager with admin and research work. I moved into a paid position shortly and continued my work there and also worked part-time in other non-government sectors including Australian Volunteers International where my role was to support the global volunteering program aimed at fostering connections between international partners and Australian organisation. The research work and administration skills that I developed during this time helped me immensely to secure a position at Flinders University back in 2007. Since then, I have been fortunate to work in a variety of roles primarily to enhance research capacity of the University and its partners. In my current role, I work with a number of stakeholders internal and external to the university to help clinical trial research more accessible to the public and break down barriers to participation in research.

What is something you love most about your work?

The passion for research and drive for discovering new treatments/interventions to reduce chances of developing diseases that I see in my team members is what I love about my work. To feel that I am part of this team and contributing even a tiny bit towards bettering lives makes be very happy and motivates me to come to work everyday.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

I would tell my younger self to travel more, to be not afraid to try new career paths as learning is life long and never stop.

If you had a super power what would it be?

If I had a super power, I would like to magically remove any diseases and suffering from this world.

How do you like to relax or spend your spare time?

I am a homebody and being home doing little home projects relaxes me.

Who is the most famous person you are related to?

Wish I was related to a famous person. I am just an ordinary person 😊!!!
