An Amazing Year Prepares Us for the Challenges of 2016

Season wishes from Professor Michelle Miller, Head of Department
Season wishes from Professor Michelle Miller, Head of Discipline

December has arrived once again and many of us are now only days away from closing our office doors and spending some much deserved time away from work. For Flinders Nutrition and Dietetics we have enjoyed a year full of achievements extending to delivery of some fantastic projects with partners across the University, in the community and with our colleagues in the private and public health sectors. Our reach continues to go beyond state borders, into the Kimberley, NT, Tasmania, QLD, Victoria, NSW and even across to our international neighbours, Singapore and Indonesia. This work would not be made possible without the mutual trust, recognition and vision that we share with you all to promote nutrition and make changes in the environments where it is needed most. Further to this, we could not make many of these projects happen without the capacity, passion and commitment from our students. The tertiary sector, and Flinders University, is facing some challenging times but we are confident that the popularity of nutrition training is not on the decline and we will continue to attract and graduate students that are of the same high quality that we have become accustomed to.

We are in a very fortunate position that we have a full complement of academic and professional staff moving forward into 2016 who, as evidenced by the enthusiasm expressed at our recent strategic planning day, retain a firm commitment to progressing the profession of Nutrition and Dietetics. This and Accreditation with the profession for another five years places us well for 2016. We appreciate that many of you are also facing challenges in your workplace, whether it be staffing, reallocation of workload, relocation or otherwise. We wish you all the very best during these challenging times and offer our full support if there is anything that we can do to assist. 2016 is sure to be another very busy year for us all but bound to be full of exciting opportunities and outcomes. So, to all of our friends and supporters, the staff of Flinders Nutrition and Dietetics wish you all the very best for the festive season and look forward to working with you again in 2016. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
