In the last ten weeks, Nutrition and Dietetics have had the pleasure of hosting Jacelyn Chua and Novenine Loo, two third year students from Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore. The purpose for their student internship program was to be able to learn, observe and participate in the workplace and experience another culture.

Jacelyn and Novenine spent time observing patient recruitment and nutrition assessment of patients on the Vascular ward with Jenni Suen. The students also assisted Dr Kacie Dickinson by collating and analysing the nutritional content of recipes in the media, focusing on the Masterchef franchise.

Since being here, the students have also had exposure to a vast number of experiences, from attending lectures, shadowing clinical dietitians, observing the student-led fracture clinic at the Repatriation General Hospital and facilitating their own Singaporean cooking class with a healthy twist as part of the Flinders 50th Anniversary celebrations. The students left the following farewell messages, and might return to study with us and become dietitians:

Jacelyn Chua – “Thank you Nutrition & Dietetics department, it’s not a goodbye but a see you soon!”

Novenine Loo – “Thank you everyone for your warm welcome and being such a sunshine to me for this entire stay”.
