Campus Works Update

As we head towards the end of semester, there are many building and maintenance projects commencing right across Bedford Park. Please be aware of the increased campus works and activities as we work to improve our space.

Slowdown in Carpark 12
Over the next few weeks there will be increased activity as we work to complete Station Plaza – a new Flinders space adjacent to Flinders Station. Trucks will be moving through the area and its likely management will be required while some construction activities occur.

Please take additional care as you move through this area, follow all directional and safety signage and slow down, particularly around workers.

Carpark 4 resurfacing
From Monday 23 November until 12 February 2021, there will be no traffic access to carpark 4 while it’s being resurfaced. Please avoid the area and use the nearby car parks 2 and 5 over the summer break.

Irrigation repairs near central Lake
Early this week there will be an excavator operating near the Lake from 7:30am-3:30pm for irrigation repairs. For safety reasons, there will temporarily fencing around the area while these works are undertaken.

Turf’s up
On Friday the turf works in the north easter corner of the Plaza will be completed and looking it’s best, ready for graduations.

Roof and stair works
We’re conducting stair and roof safety works that will result in some intermittent noise for the Engineering and Flinders Living building occupants.

Sturt Library
The Sturt Library will have safe and secure 24/7 access for students and staff from 2021. As part of this access work, we’re relocating the existing 24/7 computer lab and refreshing the main entrance and staff area.

To minimise disruption, we’re commencing this work after exams and anticipate this project will be completed by mid-January 2021. While works are underway, there will be a reduced number of computers available, some pedestrian diversions will be in place and there will be some general building noise. If you need a quiet space, please consider using the Central Library as an alternative.

Update for Point of Care/Palliative Care relocation project
Tuesday 8 December Point of Care staff will move out of Sturt West level 3. In the period of 9-21 December Sturt West level 3 will be refurbished to accommodate Palliative Care staff. Refurbishment will include new power and data connections, demolition of walls, repaint of entire area, installation of new furniture and film on the windows towards the Sturt West Corridor. Monday 21 December (TBC) Palliative Care staff move into Sturt West level 3 area.

24 November: Retaining wall repair
Beginning on November 30, work will be undertaken to repair the Sturt Creek retaining wall adjacent Link Road near Belleview Drive. The works will involve earthmoving equipment operating from the South side of Sturt South and to the East of ASMS. The parking “Blue Bays” will be used for the contractor’s compound for the duration of the works, scheduled to take around two weeks. The footpath from Link Road that leads over the creek and into the Sturt Campus may be temporarily closed to allow equipment to be moved safely. Associated with this work is an upgrade of the footpath and fence along the Northern side of Link Road.

1 December: Sturt East gutters
Sturt East gutter replacements have been scheduled from 8-11 December.
All works undertaken will be external but with some noise from grinder activity to Sim Lab area level below. EWP located eastern end of building – access either side of building maintained.
