Tuesdays in the Commons!

Every Tuesday in the Commons from 11 May to 1 June, a series of free group activities will be running to help you improve your study skills and job prospects.

Delivered by the Student Learning Support Service, the Library and Careers & Employability teams, these activities have been designed to assist you in the lead up to final assessments and exams, and get you ready to make the most of the mid-year break where you might be looking to gain professional experience.

The Commons is located at level 2 of the Central Library, Bedford Park campus.

Tuesday 1 June 2021

10am – 12pm: Learning Lounge morning session
(Drop in, Zone 2)
Learning Advisors are available to help you understand your assignment requirements and how to structure it, improve your academic writing (including help with grammar and editing) understand referencing and update your basic maths skills.

10am – 10.30am: Spotlight on: Finding and navigating eBooks
(Drop in, Zone 3)
The Library provides access to thousands of eBooks to support you in your studies. Discover how to find and navigate eBooks, whilst making the most of eBook features (e.g. search within, downloading & taking notes).

10.30am – 11am: Creative Thinking Exercises (Design Thinking)
(Drop in, Zone 1)
In this 30-minute session, we will explore a few design thinking techniques to help you develop new and creative ideas. These techniques are from the Ideation Phase of design thinking and can be applied to any situation where new ideas and solutions are needed.

11am – 11.30am: Resume Workshop 
(Registration required, Zone 1)
Does your resume need a quick update but you’re not sure where to start? Bring your resume and be supported by a Career Consultant through a self-review checklist.

11am – 11.30am: Spotlight on: Finding peer reviewed journal articles
(Drop in, Zone 3)
Do you need to find peer-reviewed journal articles for your assignment? Drop-in and chat about how to search for peer-reviewed articles and how to tell when articles are peer-reviewed.

1pm – 3pm: Learning Lounge afternoon session
(Drop in, Zone 2)

1pm – 3pm: EndNote information session
(Drop in, Zone 1)
EndNote is a free software available to Flinders students, to help take the hard work out of referencing for you. To help you better understand EndNote and how to use it, the Library and the Student Learning Support Service have teamed up to deliver information sessions in the Commons at Bedford Park. Drop in to ask questions and learn more about this program.
