Authentic and active learning tip sheet

This new tip sheet builds on the good practice guide Students are engaged in authentic and experiential learning, which provides important principles for authentic assessment, scaffolding WIL, developing Graduate Qualities, and industry/disciplinary thinking and practice. It also complements the tip sheet on Authentic assessment.

Here, we provoke some practical starting points for adding ‘authenticity’ and ‘activity’ into your topic teaching, through incorporating:

  • Authentic teaching strategies such as explicating your teaching philosophy
  • Online learning spaces that are welcoming and encourage interaction
  • Authentic learning activities such as simulation activities and real-world artefacts
