New Director for Media and Communications

KarenFormer SBS bureau chief for Adelaide, Karen Ashford, has become Flinders University’s new Director of Media and Communications.

Ms Ashford worked in government media and communications roles, as well as a communications consultant, before spending 21 years at SBS. She has extensive experience in radio, television and online as an award-winning reporter, camerawoman and producer in news and current affairs, with a strong affinity for indigenous affairs.

“It’s an exciting time for Flinders University, with new Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling at the helm, a new venture -driven site a Tonsley, a new student hub and plaza development transforming the heart of the Flinders campus, and Flinders’ 50th anniversary celebrations less than a year away,” Ms Ashford said.

“And it’s also an exciting time personally, as I embark on this new journey with the Flinders Media and Communications team.

“I’m keen to ensure that Flinders’ wealth of academic and research talent is readily accessible, responsive to media needs, and well placed to present their engaging, inspiring and often life-changing research in a media savvy manner.”
