Opportunity to improve care in the ED

Participants are sought for a Flinders research study on end-of-life care in South Australian emergency departments.

Dr Tracey Giles from the College of Nursing and Health Sciences is leading this study which will explore the experiences of family members and significant others who have lost a loved one or someone they know in an emergency department.

The results of this study will help identify the practical and emotional care and support that family members and significant others would like to receive in this situation, and to establish what is working well already and areas of care that require improvement.

Participants will be asked to talk about their experience/s during a one-hour interview and will be reimbursed for their time with a $25 supermarket voucher.

Individuals aged 18 years and over who, in the past five years, have been present in an emergency department when someone they knew passed away, are invited to participate.

This study has been approved by the Flinders University Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Dr Tracey Giles directly on 8201 3481 or via tracey.giles@flinders.edu.au.
