Emerging designers strut their style

Eclectic ranges drawing inspiration from art, music, travel and architecture will feature as graduates from the TAFE SA / Flinders University Bachelor of Creative Arts (Fashion) showcase their work at the annual graduate parade.

The 2019 HomeStart Finance Fashion Graduate Parade – called In Transit – will be held at Flinders’ Bedford Park campus on Saturday, 9 February 2019.

Fashion student Grace Brooks is excited at the prospect of seeing her own and her fellow students’ designs on the catwalk.

“It’s important to showcase what we can produce and how our ideas and the skills we’ve learnt manifest into designs,” she says.

“It is also a great way to celebrate the work we’ve done and it’s a fitting way to show our collections to our lecturers, family and friends and industry representatives.”

Her collection, titled ‘Grace’, is an elegant range in a palette of white and beige that explores flowing shapes and various textures, inspired by the drape of her chosen fabrics and fashion from the 1930s and ’70s.

Other students have drawn on global influences as diverse as Cuban architecture, Japanese art and the British punk movement of the ‘70s.

The graduate parade is supported by HomeStart Finance, which is sponsoring the Graduate of the Year award together with an additional $700 worth of prizes.

Award winners – including the HomeStart Finance Student of the Year and the Lecturers’ Choice – will be announced on the night.
