Top teachers take home honours

Six Flinders academics have received citations for outstanding contributions to student learning in the highly competitive 2018 Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT).

The AAUT were established in 1997 by the Australian Government and have become a highly valued form of recognition for university educators across Australia.

Run by Universities Australia, the 2018 AAUT Round called for nominations across three award types; Awards for Teaching Excellence, Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning and Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. The awards recognise the impact educators have on the experiences and outcomes of university students and promote excellence in learning and teaching in all aspects of higher education.

Citations are awarded to teams or individuals who have contributed in a specific area, over a sustained period of time.

In recognition of the calibre of Flinders staff, the University received the maximum number of successful citations allowed per institution, with six leading academics recognised through three wins from a field of 194 nominations.

Citation recipients:

Dr Amanda Muller (below, College of Nursing and Health Sciences), for sustained contribution to international nursing students’ professional language development using targeted and influential approaches to teaching and learning support.

Dr Jane Jarvis, Ms Anna Noble and Dr Carol Le Lant (from left to right below, College of Education, Psychology and Social Work), for innovative design and delivery in subjects on differentiation and inclusion for preservice teachers, reflecting expert knowledge and grounded in ongoing, responsive industry engagement.

Associate Professor Vivienne Brand and Dr Sulette Lombard (left to right below, College of Business, Government and Law), for excellence in design and sustained delivery of dynamic, inclusive and engaging corporate law curricula, integrating authentic legal tasks, collaborations with industry and research-led perspectives.
