College Dean to start in February

Professor Mary Katsikitis has been appointed as Dean (People & Resources) for the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work.

Her arrival at Flinders in mid-February signals part of the College’s ambitious growth trajectory, which has included the addition of Professor Debra Bateman within the college’s leadership team as the new Dean Education.

Professor Katsikitis is a recognised leader in psychology, being the Foundation Professor of Psychology and Discipline Leader at the University of the Sunshine Coast where she established undergraduate, postgraduate and psychology training clinic programs.

She was also appointed to the inaugural role of Associate Dean (International and Engagement) for a three-year term.

She spent many years with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Adelaide, and was Manager for Science and Education of the Australian Psychological Society – the peak professional body for psychology in Australia – where she managed accreditation, academic matters and professional development processes for members.

She is a Director on the Board of the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, the national accrediting body for psychology programs in Australia, and has been a senior assessor on its Accreditation Assessment Committee.

Professor Katsikitis’s current research, for which she received recent grant funding, focuses on using web-based media to deliver positive interventions, and evaluating evidence-based service models for the diagnosis and treatment of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
