Nominate now for PM Prizes for Science

Do you know an inspiring scientist, science researcher or research-based innovator? Now is the time to nominate them for the 2021 Prime Minister’s
Prizes for Science.

Flinders University has enjoyed outstanding recent successes in this enterprise, with major prizes being awarded to Professor Colin Raston and Associate Professor Justin Chalker – and now the opportunity exists for Flinders colleagues to strive to emulate their success.

There are five prizes in the 2021 PM awards program that recognise achievements across a range of disciplines and career stages, and recipients will share $650,000 in prize money, make some great connections and showcase their work to the world.

Nominations that reflect and celebrate the diversity of Australia’s science and innovation communities, and reflect people from a range of backgrounds, are welcome for the following prizes:

  • The $250,000 Prime Minister’s Prize for Science – for leading Australian scientists who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge through science.
  • The $250,000 Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation- for innovators from both industry and research who have translated scientific knowledge into substantial commercial impact.
  • The $50,000 Frank Fenner Prize for Life Scientist of the Year and $50,000 Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year – for early to mid-career scientists whose research is already making, or has the potential to make, an impact on our lives.
  • The $50,000 Prize for New Innovators – for promising early to mid-career innovators from industry and research whose work has the potential to enhance our economy through the translation of scientific knowledge into a substantial commercial impact.

To nominate a willing nominee, you need to provide a copy of their CV, attach a 500-word summary of their achievement addressing the merit criteria, plus the details of two supporters and three referees.

Nominations will remain open until 9 March 2021, and all details and submissions can be made online.
