Toolkit to help reduce libraries’ disaster risk

Torrens Resilience Institute senior research support officer Johanna Garnett has been working in recent years with a range of libraries in Australia to increase their resilience to disasters and to highlight that the wider GLAM sector (representing galleries, libraries, archives, and museums) has been playing within disaster risk reduction.

With more than 5000 libraries in Australia providing homes to many items of national, state and community heritage that are worth billions of dollars, Ms Garnett has adapted the TRI Resilience Toolkit to be applicable for libraries, creating the new Disaster Resilience Toolkit for Libraries.

She is currently seeking feedback on the current draft version from 10 libraries across the country who will review the Toolkit and undertake the Scorecard assessment. For further information, please email johanna.garnett@flinders.edu.au
