Outstanding HDR students celebrated in annual awards

Stellar contributions by Flinders University’s most fearless Higher Degree by Research students were recognised last week at the annual Celebrating Research Success event.

These awards honour and highlight contributions that Higher Degree by Research students make through their research to both the University and the wider community.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Robert Saint congratulated all the award winners and acknowledged that Flinders’ recent successes in research relies on the University’s world-class researchers.

“Research cannot be done without researchers, and Flinders University is incredibly fortunate to be the home of some of Australia’s, and the world’s, brightest research minds – with many of them being in this room,” said Professor Saint.

“This includes our fabulous cohort of Higher Degree by Research students, who are in one sense trainees, but in another, they are the engine room of our research and the source of many new research ideas. They bring their intelligence, skills and new perspectives to major new research questions.”

Professor Saint also thanked HDR student supervisors for the dedication and guidance they provide to students.

“HDR students are privy to the insight and experience of accomplished academics who serve as their supervisors – again, many of whom are here – who are at the forefront of their respective fields,” he said.

“These wonderful and dedicated supervisors provide our students with the knowledge and skills they’ll need to succeed with both their HDR studies and their future, irrespective of the direction they decide to take.”
