Associate Lecturer Claire Hayward has been named as the newest South Australian Branch Committee Member for the Australian Water Association (AWA). The Australian Water Association connects people, businesses and governments to help progress a sustainable water future. The AWA shares information and opportunities through its network of 5,000 individual and business members, reaching across local, national and international sectors, and makes connections that inspire positive change. Mo funding to help mental health

YBMenNT, a mental health program delivered by Flinders University, has been awarded funding through the second phase of Movember’s Digital Social Connections Challenge (DSCC). Five men’s health projects across Australia, the UK and Ireland will receive a total of $A2.38 million in funding over the next two years. Read the announcement here.

The YBMenNT project involves trialling an online social and emotional wellbeing health promotion program called YBMenNT (adapted from a program originally developed in the US). It aims to engage young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander males (aged 15-to-25) from the Northern Territory through using a private social media group to generate strengths-based discussions around mental health, cultural identity and progressive concepts of manhood and masculinities.

Huge honour for Dr Space Junk

Associate Professor Alice Gorman

Space archaeologist Associate Professor Alice Gorman, aka Dr Space Junk, is among 40 new Fellows elected to the Australian Academy of the Humanities recently. Election to the Australian Academy of Humanities recognises achievement in and contribution to the humanities in Australia. It is the highest honour within the humanities.

Adnyamathanha Elder and world-renowned rock art expert Dr Cliff Coulthard, known to many as Cliff, Cliffy or Uki, was also named an Honourary Fellow. Cliff passed away earlier this year.

Fellowship to improve cancer care

Dr Emma Kemp

Dr Katia Ferrar and Dr Emma Kemp have each been awarded new cancer research fellowships, thanks to investments from Flinders Foundation, Cancer Council SA and Flinders University. The fellowships will see them dedicate the next three years to improving the quality of life, and decrease distress, of people who are living with, or after, cancer.
