Flinders celebrates NAIDOC Week
Tuesday 9 July 2024
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. This year’s theme celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced. Flinders University celebrates NAIDOC week with the Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement hosting a special event complete with engaging activities and delicious sweet treats.
On Tuesday 9 July, the OISE team will be in the Student Hub at Bedford Park to distribute free Vilis donuts – and Villis will donate its proceeds from the donuts to support the Tjindu Foundation, an organisation dedicated to empowering Indigenous youth through education and cultural programs. The OISE team will also be issuing free Yaru water, produced by a social enterprise that supports various Indigenous health and community initiatives through the Yaru Foundation. The Student Hub will come alive with special jewellery-making and craft sessions, where you can get hands-on experience using native materials including gum nuts, seeds and pods to create your own unique pieces of jewellery.
So come along, enjoy a delicious treat, partake in creative activities, show your support and contribute to the spirit of unity and respect that NAIDOC Week develops.
