Featured Database: Westlaw Australia

The major legal database Westlaw AU has recently been replaced with a new platform and is now known as Westlaw Australia.

The same comprehensive content is still available, but with a new look, new navigation, and new features designed to improve efficiency and usability. It also includes access to new content, including legislation from all Australian jurisdictions.

The first time you access this new platform, you will be prompted to login with your FAN and password. This allows you to take advantage of greater, customised functionality such as history, folders, favourites, etc.

One major change to note is to the case citator, FirstPoint. This is no longer offered as a product, but the same information is still available. When you find a case, you can still see the history, a short summary, classification information (now known as ‘Key Numbers’) and cases citing. You can also still search for cases by keyword or by references to legislation, etc – simply click on ‘Cases’ on the landing page to find an ‘Advanced’ search option.

To learn how to navigate this new platform to get the information you need, check out the Thomson Reuters training and support website. Here you will find a suite of guides and videos, as well as upcoming webinars you can register to attend.
