Are you a smartphone addict?

smartphone impulsiveness study

Researchers from Monash University are conducting a study on whether “adults who overly engage with smartphones have difficulty inhibiting impulsive behaviours”

Basically, is there a relationship between addiction to your smartphone and being more impulsive?

I’m a fan of participating in research. Yes, it takes a bit of time, but you can usually learn something interesting in the process, as well as advancing the scientific study of important topics like mental health.

The present study aims to examine whether adults who overly engage with smartphones have difficulty inhibiting impulsive behaviours. If you choose to volunteer in this study, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire followed by a computerised cognitive task. The cognitive task will require you to press on your spacebar when you see numbers appear on your screen. The self-rated questionnaires will examine the extent of smartphone usage and general aspects of impulsivity. Please note that there are no right or wrong answers for the questionnaires. Please answer the questions as honestly as you can and try not to overthink them.

Although participation is voluntary, we would like to thank you by offering you the chance to win 1 of 10 eVouchers valued at $50. The winners will be randomly drawn. Please note that participation should take approximately 25 minutes.

Please note that this study MUST be completed on a desktop computer or laptop. Unfortunately the cognitive task is not compatible for use on tablets or smartphones. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Eligibility: Please note that you must be aged 18-60 years old, and must not have a history of psychiatric illness, substance addiction or brain injury.
