Expression of interest: ‘Peer Leaders and Aspirations’ project – Co Design Group member.

The Peer Leaders and Aspirations project is a pilot model aimed at improving the education and career aspirations of secondary school students with disability. The project aims to achieve this goal through the delivery of workshops to year 10 secondary school students in selected schools.

The project is funded by the NDCO and led in partnership with Julia Farr Youth Purple Orange who have successfully developed peer leader training and mentoring programs.

The ‘Peer Leaders and Aspirations’ Project Co Design Group is seeking a first/second year university student(recent school leaver) with disability to participate in project Co Design Group meetings.

The purpose of the Co Design group is to support the ‘Peer Leaders and Aspirations’ project to achieve its aim of improving the aspirations of secondary school students with disability.

The role of Co Design Group members is to share their ideas and knowledge regarding workshop planning and information that could benefit secondary school students with disability.

Taking meeting notes will also be a requirement of the role for 1 or 2 meetings.

Meetings are 9.30am – 11am on the 2nd Thursday of the month at Unley, running from March – May 2019.

The Co Design Group has 7 people including people with disability and stakeholders from government agencies and the education sector.

Personal attributes/ experience:

  • Lived experience in overcoming challenges regarding achieving education and career goals
  • Good communication skills including confidence to share ideas with various stakeholders within a group setting
  • Experience in preparing for and contributing to meetings.
  • Ability to take meeting notes
  • Currently enrolled/studying at University

Peer leaders would be paid $250 to attend each meeting.
