Psychology Week 2019 – young people and social justice

Psychology Week is the 10th to the 16th November.

It is coordinated by the Australian Psychological Society, the peak body for psychologists in Australia.

I am a member of the APS and serve on the SA Branch Committee.

I realise it is a little early to be promoting Psychology Week activities, but the focus of Psychology Week this year has direct relevance to tertiary students.

You see “In 2019, Psychology Week will promote what psychology as a science tells us about young people’s feelings, attitudes and beliefs about social justice, with a particular focus on the climate crisis.”

To achieve this they are developing a Social Justice Youth Advisory Group and “are looking for people aged between 16-25 years, with views they want to share on things like climate change, environmental destruction, racism and peace. If this sounds like you or someone you know, we would love to hear from you! Find out more on the APS website.

To register your interest, visit their online application form – https://aps-forms.formstack.com/forms/sjyag

The APS reckons this is a good opportunity to:

  • Meet people who share similar interests to you
  • Be part of an interesting discussion
  • Develop new skills like leadership, teamwork and public speaking
  • Have the opportunity to influence community attitudes
  • Enhance your resume

and so do I – 🙂
