Disability Services highlight Bedford Park Student Hub flooring renewal

This is a heads-up from Disability Services that flooring replacement works in the Student Hub will begin on 23 November 2024 and run until January 2025, involving staged areas, temporary diversions, and maintained access to key facilities, with signage guiding changes throughout. This may have implications for students with a disability who access this area.

The works will commence on Saturday, 23 November 2024, and continue until the end of January 2025.

This work will involve:

  • temporary relocation of the ‘Where it’s At Coffee Co’ caravan to the adjacent Club Lounge (near the lockers);
  • removal of existing vinyl and adhesive on the ground floor, stairs on all floors, and in lift cars;
  • grinding of the concrete slab (after hours work);
  • application of a moisture barrier; and
  • installation of new flooring.

The works will be delivered in four stages as below, in the following order: A1, A2, B1 and then B2.

A1: Eastern side of the Hub from the entrance to the end of the “Where it’s at Coffee” caravan

A2: The Tavern/Alere lift to the southern entry of the hub

B1: Western side of the Hub from the entrance to in front of the student kitchen facilities

B2: Western side of the Hub from in front of the student kitchen facilities to in front of the food vendor area

There will be diversions to usual paths of travel, which at times will include entry doors into the Student Hub.

⭐Please ensure that you take note and follow directions and diversions marked on signage as this will change as work progresses ⭐

For the duration of the works, access will be maintained:

·         between all floors via one of the sets of stairs and one lift;

·         to all retailers and study areas on the ground, first and second floors;

·         to the Club Lounge (near the lockers), Student Kitchen, Food Court and Parent Room; and

·         to the corridor between the Hub and Yungkurrinthi – including access to Finance offices and the Registry loading dock.

During stages A1, A2 and B1, access will be maintained to bathroom facilities on the ground floor.  However, during stage B2, there will be no access to ground floor bathrooms as the corridor adjacent the food court, where bathrooms are located, will be closed between the Hub and steps to Car Park #1.  During this stage, signage will highlight diversions to bathroom facilities on the first and second floors and direct pedestrians to enter the Hub via the southern entrance.

Please also note that the Multimedia Lounge within the Student Hub is closed for the duration of the flooring replacement works, as part of a separate project to upgrade the space.

Should you require support with access during this time, please organise a meeting with a Disability Advisor to discuss the options available.

Thanks for your patience as we undertake these works to improve our campus and Flinders community.
