This is a repost of an article from Flinders in Touch on the upcoming RAP conference. The Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) conference program at Flinders University in 2025 includes a three-day mix of in-person and online activities, featuring Welcome to Country, RAP updates and achievements, language workshops, cultural tours, student activities, presentations on various RAP initiatives, an anti-racism workshop, a keynote speech, Aboriginal art introduction, and a community BBQ with performances.
Flinders University’s RAP Conference is back, and you won’t want to miss this enriching three-day event.
Held from Wednesday 21 May to Friday 23 May, the RAP Conference provides a platform for staff and students to engage in a variety of cultural activities and discussions centred around the University’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
The conference commences with an official opening including a Welcome to Country by Jack Buckskin and an introduction to the RAP Conference program from Co-Chairs of the University’s RAP Oversight Committee, Professor Simone Ulalka Tur (Pro Vice Chancellor Indigenous) and Professor Jonathan Craig (Vice President and Executive Dean, College of Medicine and Public Health).
The first day of the conference is packed with events and activities including a campus tour, Kaurna language workshop by Kuma Kaaru as well as a presentation by Kirstie Parker; a Yuwaalaraay woman from north-west New South Wales with more than 25 years experience in Indigenous advocacy, journalism and government.
The subsequent days continue to offer a blend of educational and cultural experiences. Highlights include a tour of FUMA’s collection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, Anti-Racism Workshop by Reconciliation SA and keynote presented by Reconciliation SA CEO, Jason Downs.
The Student Hub will come to life with live entertainment and a weaving station offered throughout the conference schedule, ensuring a vibrant and engaging atmosphere.
Our team at Yungkurrinthi will close the formalities of the conference with a Community BBQ from 3pm on Friday 23 May in Inparrila, where we invite you to bring your colleagues along to join us for a Smoking Ceremony and enjoy the angelic voices of the award winning and highly regarded, Iwiri Choir.
Please note that the conference schedule is subject to change, and participants are encouraged to check for updates regularly. We look forward to your active participation in making this event a success.
