This is a repost of some excellent news I received via email today.
I am pleased to let you know that Flinders University is one of four national finalists in the R U OK? Barbara Hocking Memorial Awards in the category of Education (school, TAFE or university).
The Barbara Hocking Memorial Award recognises and celebrates outstanding efforts from people and institutions to support R U OK? in their community. This is to encourage regular and meaningful conversations about investing more time in the people around us – spreading the ‘R U OK message’ any day of the year.
Our nomination reflected on the University’s commitment to fostering a mentally healthy and supportive learning environment through the Wellbeing strategic plan, our commitment to R U OK? Day, the Oasis Student Wellbeing Centre, the launch of the BetterU brand and website, staff wellbeing through Thriving@Flinders, and wellbeing strategies embedded in curriculum (ooh, that might be some of the stuff that I’ve been doing – or maybe I am just taking credit for it).
Whilst the winner will be announced on 18 August, being nominated at a national level is a great achievement for Flinders. You might see this news shared elsewhere via Ping! and other channels. See the Flinders in Touch write-up here.
Well done to everyone involved in this important work, this is truly a collaborative achievement. A particular shout-out to Jamie Scroop (Oasis Coordinator) who collated the information necessary and put up the nomination.
