Back from break, I’m wrapping up the year with new content, student stories, and an invite to Inclusive Celebration Day on 3 December.
I’m back after a bit of a break.
Don’t tell anyone, but I didn’t really want to return. I enjoyed the mental time off. I enjoyed lying down watching true crime documentaries. I enjoyed repotting plants.
But the mental health mission doesn’t wait for anyone, including me on a couch, so I am back and I am keen to finish the year strong 😊

First up:
Congratulations to everyone who has wrapped up exams 🥳🍾🙌🏻🎇
and good luck to those still wrestling with final assignments, reports, and end-of-year tasks 📚✍🏻💻
And to the postgrads (who often don’t get an obvious pause in their year) I wish you continued progress, deep research insights and at least a few days of genuine rest and recovery.

As for me, the final stretch of 2025 will involve getting ready for next year’s student placements, chipping away at a “flourishing universities” chapter I’m writing, recording content for topics next year, processing a 💩-tonne of emails, farewelling the wonderful students we’ve had on placement with us, and attempting what can only be described as an information spring clean.
I’ll keep posting content on BetterU right up until Christmas. This will include the final pieces from the students who have been on placement with us this semester. You can read more about them here (and I highly recommend you do).
[on that note: If you’re interested in contributing a piece of content to the site, feel free to contact me: gareth.furber@flinders.edu.au.]

Before I sign off today, I want to point you to three fantastic student stories recently published on the blog. They showcase what’s possible when inclusion and diversity are embraced fully:
These lead into our upcoming Inclusive Celebration Day:

Campus usually gets quieter after exams, but I warmly invite you back for the event on 3rd December. It’s a highlight of the year.

More posts coming soon! Good luck with the final push and take care of yourselves.
