Mindfulness practices on YouTube from our mindfulness man Chris

Nowadays I tend to recommend that most people explore some kind of contemplative practice. Mindfulness meditation is an excellent choice within that broader universe and we have someone in our team with expertise in that area.

Flinders counsellor Chris O’Grady runs a range of programs supporting student wellbeing and academic success.

Across some of these programs, Chris introduces mindfulness as a practical way to work with stress, strong feelings, distraction and our tendency to operate on automatic pilot.

If you’ve encountered mindfulness through one of Chris’s programs, or you’re simply interested in exploring it, you can now practise in your own time through Chris’s YouTube channel.

The channel (at the time of writing) contains 13 free guided practices, ranging from 10 to 45 minutes. You’ll find:

  • breath and body awareness
  • short and extended body scans
  • seated and movement-based practices
  • kindness and compassion meditation
  • open-awareness exercises
  • practices for working with strong feelings.

You don’t need to have attended one of Chris’s programs or have previous mindfulness experience. Choose a practice that interests you, find a comfortable space and give it a try.

Then if you want to explore further, head to his programs page and consider signing up.
