Neurodiversity Celebration Week

This one goes out to staff at Flinders who would like to contribute to discussions on the value of creating a neurodiverse workforce. BUT for students, the post includes a link to Neurodiversity Celebration Week which is the 17th to 23rd March.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences including those linked to autism, ADHD, dyslexia and sensory-sensitivity. These differences are experienced by around 20% of the total population in Australia.

In recent years there has been steep increase in the number of initiatives focused on supporting neurodivergent students and staff in Higher Education. This is important because people with invisible, poorly understood, stigmatised or complex diversities are typically absent from organisational discussions about equity.

We are asking Flinders University staff, and especially those in leadership roles to contribute to discussions on the value of creating a neurodiverse workforce. As a starting point, we encourage you to join staff with a relevant lived experience at a forum intended to increase organisational understanding of neurodiversity and to inform new directions that will reduce existing inequities and promote greater inclusion at Flinders University.

Forum details:

3-4pm, Tuesday 18th March, Lecture theatre 1.09 Health Sciences Building, Flinders University Bedford Park
(N.B. Related events will be arranged for staff located at other Flinders University Campuses at a later date).

Panellists include:

Prof. Colin Raston (College of Science and Engineering) (he/him)
Amy Kosandiak (Library, Patron Engagement)
Dr. Ali Enright (College of Education, Psychology and Social Work)
Dr. Amy Wyatt (College of Medicine and Public Health) (she/her)

Session Chair:

Ms Paula Redpath (College of Medicine and Public Health) (she/her)

We appreciate your help to share this invitation broadly with Flinders University Staff. If you are able to attend, please RSVP for the purpose of capacity management.
