Wellbeing Week was a ripper!

I had nothing to do with the success of Wellbeing Week, but I am very happy to post about it! True credit goes to the Oasis crew and their partners.

Last week (4th to 8th May) was Wellbeing Week.Β

I played a small role in kicking things off with a Managing Overwhelm session.

But the real stars of the show were Oasis, led by Magnolia and Jamie.

Magnolia sent through some stats from the week, which I thought I would share. The numbers speak to just how much activity happens during these themed Orientation weeks.

I present them here with future you in mind. If you didn’t get the chance to participate in Wellbeing Week or didn’t know it was on, take comfort in the fact that Wellbeing Week happens again in Semester 2. There will be another chance.

Also, students shared the types of activities they use to support their wellbeing.

What the team achieved!

Key highlights and what we achieved together

🌟 5 days of activation across multiple locations, including City Campus, Bedford Park Student Hub and Plaza, and the Oasis Student Wellbeing Centre.

πŸŽ‰ 19 activities delivered throughout the week.

🏒 The Wellbeing Expo at Bedford Park was our largest event, featuring 15 exhibitors β€” 11 community-based organisations and 4 from Flinders.

🐢 Special mention to our Wellbeing Dogs, Elmo and Jackson, who brought smiles to many faces and were a real highlight for students.

🧠 3 Wellbeing Workshops facilitated, delivered by Health in My Language from Australian Red Cross and the Light & Mental Health Community Education Program from Flinders.

πŸ₯€ 150 Smoodis distributed, across 6 flavours, courtesy of FUSA and Student Engagement and Success.

πŸ’¬ 198 student responses collected through our roaming iPad/Slido engagement activity, asking:
β€œWhat’s the best thing you have done for your wellbeing recently?”

✨ Key wellbeing themes students shared included:
🀝 Social connection and spending time with friends/family
πŸƒ Physical activity and exercise
😴 Rest, sleep and relaxation
🎨 Creative activities and hobbies
🌿 Nature and the outdoors
🧘 Mindfulness
β˜• Food, coffee and treats
🌱 Self-improvement
🎧 Entertainment β€” music, shows, gaming and reading
πŸ“š Study balance and taking breaks

πŸ–ΌοΈ The Mindful Art Launch received very positive feedback, with participants sharing that it β€œbrought back good memories of childhood, encouraged art appreciation, and created a sense of connection with like-minded people.”

πŸ₯ Multiple African Soul Drumming sessions were facilitated at Bedford Park and City Campus β€” and they were a big hit in the City!

πŸ›οΈ The Community Market became β€œMarket Fun Day”, with 271 attendees receiving prizes such as Community Market tote bags, Oasis drinking bottles and pens, Good Vibes pins and stickers.

πŸ’› And last but not least, a heartfelt thank you to our 26 Wellbeing Ambassadors, who contributed 89 volunteer hours. Many also brought amazing creative social media talent to the week.

πŸ“± Oasis socials reached 3,058 followers and 34,988 views for Wellbeing Week alone!
