Get ready to thrive during Wellbeing Week with the Thrive Festival, offering a mix of learning, connection, and fun to boost your mental and physical wellbeing! Don’t let just the College of Business, Government and Law have all the fun.


In a previous post I alerted you to the fact that Wellbeing Week is coming up from the 9th to 13th September and indicated I’d keep you up to date on Wellbeing Week developments.

I’m totally going to rise to the occasion on that one by alerting you to the Thrive Festival. Or more correctly, I am going to leverage my phenomenal cut and paste skills to deliver you information about the Festival.

Hosted by the College of Business, Government and Law, Thrive Festival is an empowering and nourishing event as part of Flinders Wellbeing Week for semester two that invites you to experience a unique blend of learning, connection, and enjoyment.

While university life is filled with exciting opportunities and experiences, it also presents intricate challenges when trying to navigate the demands of study with other life commitments. Thrive Festival offers you evidence-based tools, resources, and inspiration to empower you to take charge of your physical and mental wellbeing – and thrive!

Open to all staff and students in the Law and Commerce courtyard on Tuesday the 10th of September from 11am-2pm, there are plenty of opportunities to fuel your mind and body. Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store:

 

Wellbeing Panel Discussion (11:30am-12:30pm) 🗣

Hear from a range of experts and thought leaders on topics relating to sleep, the psychology of wellbeing and nutrition. Facilitated by Leadership Strategist and Executive Coach Tamsin Simounds, we’re excited to hear from:

Build your Own Terrarium with Botanista (11am-2pm) 🍀

You will learn all the basics of terrarium making: what materials to use to make your terrarium thrive, and what plants are best for different types of terrariums.

Drop into the Botanista stall on the day to put your name down for any of the following 3 sessions:

  • 11:15am-12pm
  • 12:15-1pm
  • 1:15-2pm

 

Vision Board Workshop with Pam Zorn (11:30am-12:30pm) ⬜

This is an opportunity to get clear about what you want, set some intentions for the future, and create your very own vision board! Once you have all your images, arrange your vision board in a way that makes you feel happy and inspired. Before the session, have a think about your goals and career aspirations, and consider a theme! While glue sticks, markers and magazines will be provided, please bring along:

  • Some magazines to share if you can
  • Print words that you may want to use
  • Pictures that represent what’s important to you or you want to be inspired by
  • Pictures of toys or games you played with as a child/adolescent
  • Quotes
  • Pictures of your dream house, things you want to do more of (reading, travel, beaches)

Open Art Studio Workshop with Jake Holmes (11am-2pm) 🎨

In this hands-on workshop with local artist Jake Holmes, you’ll have the chance to have a go at screen printing and produce a work of your own by adding collaged and drawn elements to your print. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or curious to try something new, all skill levels are welcome.

Jake Holmes is an Adelaide based artist whose work currently focuses on illustration and screen printing. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Australia, including at Flinders University Museum of Art as part of The Guildhouse Collections Project in 2019.

Plant Pot Painting with Flinders Law Students’ Association (11am-2pm) 🌷

Join Flinders Law Students’ Association in painting and decorating a terracotta plant pot to take home! All supplies will be provided, just bring yourself and your creativity!

Pre-booking required to ensure there are enough supplies on the day, but drop in anytime from 11-2. Secure your spot here.

 

Wellness Hub with Flinders Uni Sport and Fitness (11am-2pm) 🏃‍♂️

  • Massages (11:15-2:15): Feel the stress melt away with a complimentary 10-minute neck and shoulder massage.
  • Compression Pants (11-2)Experience a range of benefits linked to compression pants including increased body circulation and reduced pain, soreness, swelling & inflammation.
  • Pilates (12-12:45): You will be taken through a relaxing but strong 45-minute Pilates class to help improve your core strength, mobility and flexibility. Pre-booking required. Secure your spot here.
  • ‘Lucky Dip for a Dip’ Ice Bath Challenges (12:30-1:30): Ease sore and aching muscles, improve your mental alertness and reduce inflammation. Take on the challenge and win a range of amazing prizes including a free 3-month gym membership! Pre booking required. Secure your spot here.

Drop into the Wellness Hub on the day to put your name down for the massages and compression pants.

 

Cooking Demonstration with The Food Centre (11am-12pm) 👩‍🍳

Learn how to prepare nutritious, one pot meals on a budget and with limited space and storage. You can also learn more about the amazing work the Food Centre are doing in the community, and get involved by donating or signing up to be a volunteer. By participating in this workshop, you can go in the draw to win a free rice cooker or some of their delicious Easy Feast Meals.

 

Market Stalls 🤹‍♀️

Donate to worthwhile causes and support small businesses by exploring a diverse range of market stalls including Saltbush Creation and Idyllic Essentials.

 

Enjoy Delicious Eats 🍿

Fuel your body with delicious food options including $10 yiros and chips from Staazi and Co, free popcorn, BBQs and bake sales led by our wonderful student associations, and $2 Local Brew coffee vouchers.

Attend the panel discussion and go in the draw to win a raffle prize full of goodies. You can also visit the FBSA stall to have a go at our lucky dip prizes for a gold coin donation, with proceeds being donated to worthwhile causes.
