Psychology PhD student Maya contacted me to let me (and thus you) know about a randomised controlled trial she is running testing a digital mental health app for university students experiencing body image concerns. If you’ve struggled with body image concerns, please consider looking further into participating. Details in post.
Flinders University researchers are recruiting students to take part in a study evaluating a digital mental health app designed to support body image and wellbeing.
The study explores short, app-based activities (called single-session interventions) that target common challenges like body image concerns, stress, low mood, worry, and self-criticism.
Who can take part:
- University students aged 18–25
- Experiencing body image concerns
- Living in Australia
- Have access to a smartphone and internet
What’s involved:
- A brief eligibility screening (2–3 minutes)
- A baseline survey (~10 minutes)
- A 3-week study period, including:
- short weekly surveys
- brief app-based activities (around 30 minutes each, once per week)
Participants are randomly assigned to either receive the app activities during the study or access them after the study period (waitlist group).
What do you get:
- A $20 voucher after completing the final survey
Other details:
- Ethics approved by Flinders University (HREC #9497)
- Some questions relate to mental health and body image, and you can skip any questions or stop at any time
