One of my highlights of 2026 thus far is seeing much more student written content on BetterU. And that is thanks to the students on placement with us. In this post, they introduce themselves 🙂
Earlier this year, I welcomed two new students to the BetterU Newsroom: Jacob and Jenny.
Since then the team has expanded further and I wanted to introduce the full group that has been working on content during Semester 1 of 2026.
All of these students are on formal placements in social work, public health or psychology.
It is (and has been) a pleasure to have them on the team and see their ideas take shape as articles on the site.
Each of them has provided a brief bio and I’ve linked to their BetterU content as well. Note that at the time of writing, some are still working on content and I will add links here as they are published.
Please consider showing your support for their work by visiting their articles and maybe leaving a comment.
Whilst these students are on formal placements, all students are welcome to submit content for BetterU. Learn more about that here.
Jenny (social work)
Jenny is a social work student currently on placement with the BetterU News Team and the Community Development Program. As an international student, Jenny draws on lived experience of navigating financial stress, study pressures, self-care and relationship wellbeing during university life. Her work focuses on student wellbeing and mental health promotion and brings practical, action-focused approaches to student wellbeing, including financial wellbeing and creative practices such as therapeutic photography. Her goal is to create accessible wellbeing content that helps students take small, meaningful steps to care for their mental health. In her free time, she cooks, bakes, overthinks song lyrics and convinces herself that photography counts as mindfulness.

Jacob (social work)
Jacob is a Social Work student at Flinders University, currently completing his professional placement with the student wellbeing team. He’ll be writing for BetterU in 2026, translating social work frameworks and wellbeing resources into practical, student-focused advice. Jacob is passionate about integrating lived experience with professional practice to support student mental health. Outside of his studies, he stays active through tennis and hiking, practices mindfulness and enjoys reading psychology and philosophy.

Dylan (psychology)
I’m a third year psychology student completing a smaller placement with BetterU, I’m attempting to write a series of articles based on procrastination focusing on practical advice to assist students dealing with it, while recontextualising it as a regulation issue and attempting to address the root causes behind it. Working as a support worker and youth mentor I try to implement some of the things I’ve learned throughout my studies into ways I can assist clients I work with. In my free time I enjoy staying fit through boxing training, playing soccer and hiking, I also enjoy a good TV/movie binge from time to time.
Khushi (public health)
I’m a Public Health student currently completing my placement with the BetterU student wellbeing team. I’ve always been interested in wellbeing and mental health, which naturally led me to studying public health and exploring how we can make support more accessible and practical for students. Through BetterU, I hope to create content that feels honest, relatable and genuinely useful for navigating the ups and downs of university life. I’m especially passionate about small, realistic wellbeing habits that actually fit into busy student schedules. Outside of uni, you’ll usually find me outdoors, going for walks or staying active through exercise, spending time in the fresh air, or catching up with friends.

Lily (psychology)
Lily is a Psychology student currently completing her placement with the BetterU News Team, where she creates student-focused wellbeing content that combines psychological research with relatable lived experience. Her writing explores topics such as perfectionism, self-worth, mental health, body image, and the pressures many students face during university life. Lily is particularly passionate about making psychology feel more practical, personal, and accessible for those who may be struggling silently with stress, anxiety, negative thoughts, or unrealistic expectations of themselves. Through her work she hopes to encourage others to treat themselves with self-compassion and balance, while still striving to grow and succeed. She enjoys translating complex psychological concepts into content that feels supportive, honest, and easy to connect with. Outside of study, Lily enjoys pilates, the beach, travelling, and sport.
Fiyo (public health)
Fiyo is a Public Health student with a keen interest in how music, study habits, social connection, and self-care shape student wellbeing. They enjoy sharing practical, evidence-based tips that students can use in everyday life. Outside of study, they love discovering new music, spending time with friends, and exploring Adelaide’s food and culture.

Jingyi (Lucy – public health)
Hi, I’m Jingyi, but I also go by Lucy. I’m an international student studying Public Health. I’m interested in mental health and wellbeing, especially how students manage stress, study pressure, uncertainty, anxiety, and the small but real emotional challenges that come with university life. Through BetterU, I hope to share writing that feels honest, gentle and relatable, so students can feel a little less alone in what they are going through. Outside of study, I enjoy watching dramas, quiet walks, baking, and trying new sports that I’m not very good at yet.
