Build your mental health support skills in Semester 2

Looking for a practical skill that can make a real difference both during university and beyond? Registrations are now open for Semester 2 Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for Flinders students.

Mental Health First Aid is internationally recognised training that teaches participants how to identify, approach and support someone who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. Just as traditional first aid equips people to respond to physical health emergencies, MHFA provides practical tools and strategies for responding to mental health concerns.

More training options in Semester 2

To help students fit training around study, work and other commitments, a range of delivery formats are available throughout Semester 2.

Students can choose from:

  • Blended courses that combine self-paced online learning with a face-to-face workshop
  • Fully face-to-face training programs
  • Courses offered during teaching weeks
  • Additional opportunities during semester breaks

With multiple dates available, there are more opportunities than ever to complete this highly regarded training.

Why do students complete MHFA?

Students tell us they enrol for many different reasons. Some want to better support friends, family members or fellow students. Others are interested in developing skills that complement careers in health, education, community services, business, leadership and many other fields.

MHFA training can help you:

  • Develop confidence in having conversations about mental health
  • Recognise when someone may need support
  • Respond effectively in challenging situations
  • Understand pathways to professional help and support services
  • Build skills that are valued in workplaces and communities

Free for Flinders students

Thanks to Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) funding, Mental Health First Aid training is available free of charge for current Flinders students.

Places are limited and registrations are essential.
