Neurodiversity Group is running Two Learning Skills Support Sessions!

Join Flinders’ Neurodiversity Community Program for inclusive, peer-led sessions that tackle procrastination and uni challenges with creative, supportive, and neurodivergent-friendly strategies.

Flinders University’s Neurodiversity Community Program (NCP) is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and empowering environment for neurodivergent individuals. The program promotes understanding of neurodiversity across the university through training, events, and resources, and listens to students’ personal experiences to improve access and support. It also provides opportunities for connection, advocacy, and co-design to help students thrive academically, socially, and professionally. You can learn more about it here.

The NCP have a couple of events planned that should know about. Dates and venues are still being worked out, but it is looking like they will be around Week 8. There is a form at the bottom that you can fill out and the team will be in contact to let you know about dates and times as soon as possible.

1. “Tackling Procrastination” 🐌

When: Monday 15th September, from 2.30 to 3.30

Where: Oasis Common Room

Welcome to a support group like no other, where we take on our greatest enemy: procrastination. Tired of the same old advice that never seems to stick? So are we! This group is all about breaking the mould with fresh, creative, and truly unhinged strategies that actually work, especially for neurodivergent students who’ve tried it all. We’re building a space where neurodivergent students can come together and share experiences: from bizarre rituals to unconventional hacks, we’re diving deep into the weird and wonderful world of productivity.

2. “Keeping up with uni: accessing resources” 🚀

When: Wednesday 17th September, from 2.30 to 3.30

Where: Oasis Common Room

Struggling to keep up with university resources? So overwhelmed you don’t even know where to start? Well, look no further than this support group, where we focus on accessing helpful resources as a neurodivergent student! No need to do research, we will compile a list of supports and links and where to find them and share it with you.

To register your interest for either event (or both if you like!), fill out this form: https://forms.office.com/r/M50EP01LVQ

🟩 Both sessions will be a low sensory environment with chill vibes where a small group of neurodivergent uni-goers can get together and discuss the topic of the day. We will have fidget toys, blankets, and alternative seating. Most of our time will be spent in peer-led conversations, where you can share your own struggles and successes, learn from others, and contribute to the knowledge base. To finish, Dan and I will share what we found from various neurodivergent friendly sources 🟩

🤝 Meet Dan and Adi – Your Session Facilitators

As part of a 4-month Community Development Program placement, Dan and Adi, two Master of Social Work students, are working with the Student Learning Support Service (SLSS) and the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work to run NCP activities.

They’re based at SLSS on Level 2 of the Central Library every Wednesday and Thursday until the end of November. You can also find out about the initiative here (under construction).

If you’d like to get in contact with them, email is a great start:

👋 Also, say hi if you see them around!
