Chris announces Semester 2 dates for ADHD Support Group and Mindfulness for Academic Success

Yeah, I realise Semester 1 isn’t even finished and we are talking Semester 2, but when it comes to self-care, a little bit of a future focus isn’t too bad.

Howdy all!

I know that for many of you, Semester 2 is probably not your mental priority at the moment.

At this point of the semester, most students are neck deep in assignments, exams, placements, work, life admin, and just getting through to the end of Semester 1 in one piece.

But, if you can spare a tiny moment to think about your future Semester 2 self, ask this question:

Would my Semester 2 self benefit from having some support, structure, skills and self-care already booked into the diary?

If the answer is yes, my colleague Chris has just posted Semester 2 dates and registration opportunities for two of his excellent programs:

🌟 ADHD 101 Support Group
A 10-week program for students with ADHD, focused on understanding your ADHD brain, building strategies, and connecting with other students with similar experiences. Topics include organisation, procrastination, getting started, emotional regulation, perfectionism, shame and vulnerability, and planning for future success.

🌟 Mindfulness for Academic Success
A 5-week program focused on reducing stress and anxiety, improving focus, working with procrastination, and building self-compassion. There are a few different Semester 2 options, including in-person and online.

Both programs are free for Flinders students. Registering is as simple as completing a short online form. Chris then contacts you to confirm interest.

A special note on the ADHD Support Group: it usually fills quickly. So, if you are interested, I’d suggest getting your registration in sooner rather than later.

This might just be me, but I think there is something psychologically useful about putting this kind of thing in your diary now (like actually setting aside the dates in times in your written or online calendar). I am more likely to do something if I schedule it with some lead-in time and have it visible in my calendar for a few weeks.

When Semester 2 arrives, it is easy to just roll straight into classes, deadlines and responsibilities. Booking in some self-development or self-care ahead of time is one way of making sure your wellbeing doesn’t simply get squeezed out once the semester gets busy.

So, while your current self is doing the hard work of finishing Semester 1 (good luck with that!), consider doing a small favour for your Semester 2 self as well.
