Flinders University R U OK? Day Event

On Thursday the 12th of September, Flinders will be marking R U OK? Day with an event at Bedford, being streamed online for those on our other campuses.

Wellbeing Week is very close!

You can see some other posts about what will be happening on campus: Oasis and Thrive Festival.

This post is about the R U OK? Day Event 🙂

I even have my R U OK? t-shirt ready, although it is hanging up outside my office, rather than on me.

Taking a moment to check in with yourself and those around you can be a lifesaver.

On Thursday 12 September, Flinders University will join in the national acknowledgement of R U OK? Day, Australia’s day of action where we are reminded to ask R U OK? any day, because life happens every day.

As part of our acknowledgement of this important message, we are hosting an event for all staff and students on Thursday 12 September, from 11:30am in the Plaza.

Hosted by Professor Romy Lawson, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, join us to hear from guest speakers who will share their insights on the importance of mental health and the power of checking in with one another.

11:30am – Viewing of R U OK? Day Virtual Event

11:45am – Guest Speakers

  • Lydia Woodyatt – Professor in Psychology at Flinders University
  • Veanna Ranka – Bachelor of Clinical Sciences / Doctor of Medicine student, Oasis Wellbeing Ambassador and Senior Mental and Sexual Health Officer for Flinders University’s Health and Human Rights Group.

12:30pm – Live music and student activities

Listen to guest speakers share their views on the importance of the day and understand how essential it is for everyone to get involved.

Come along, get involved, and support those around you by asking, “R U OK?”. Plus, enjoy some R U Ok? Day cookies as we celebrate the importance of starting meaningful conversations to support mental health.

To register, visit the Eventbrite link. For staff and students at our other campuses across South Australia and the Northern Territory, you can join the event online.
